MAY / JUNE 2014
Even more excitement is in store for the students at Northeast for the months of May and June! Our ELL Fiesta will be on May 22. It is always a great time to reconnect with our district family. It will be at Northeast this year, and the students are diligently preparing to showcase their work. The fifth and sixth grade students will have their dioramas and book cubes showcasing the novel Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan. Some students will be dancing, and the fifth grade Social Studies/Writing students are creating a movie encompassing the entire school year. Please join us! If you don't have the flyer - you can get it in the Digital Backpack.
We wrote loads of poetry in April, and we're continuing to do so in May. Look for your student's Poetry Folder toward the end of May. We're all extremely proud of the work the students are doing.
We'll be traveling to the Field Museum of Natural History on May 29 for our E.L.L. Departmental Field Trip. Kindergarten through second grade students will be participating in a Soil Adventure, while grades three to six will do an exploration of Ancient Egypt.
Our great behavior in and out of school will lead us into our yearly carnival, I'm sure! We will be doing Zumba and hip-hop dancing on Friday the 23rd in honor of Relay for Life.
APRIL 2014
We are super excited for Spring and National Poetry Month! We've started reading and writing poetry and have posted some on the bulletin board in our mobile.
5th Grade will participating in the PARCC test this week on Thursday and Friday. We know they'll do their best, and that's all we ask for. If your student is in my reading group, he or she will not be participating. If you have any questions, please call the school.
April also is the start of the fourth quarter - wow! Where has the school year gone? Please remind students to stay focused until the end. We have a lot of work to do before June.
Report cards will go home on April 11, so be sure to look for those. All of my students also receive an ELL Progress Report. That will be in the same envelope. Again, any questions, do not hesitate to call (708) 422-6501 ext. 2567, or email [email protected].
We are tweeting and blogging on a regular basis. Please comment on your student's blog posts! They want to hear from family and friends far and near. That is the great thing about both of these endeavors - on Twitter, we are following classrooms in Switzerland, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and of course, the U.S. We are hoping to get some blog feedback from relatives far and near. Remember, I approve every comment on our blog. Our students safety is my top priority.
